What the AI does, and what it doesn't

Two separate AI jobs happen in Inkling: turning audio into text, and turning text into notes, and you choose what powers each one.

What AI writes my notes?

Open Settings → Listening: speech to text and Settings → Writing: your notes AI to see and change what's doing each job. Both run on your Mac by default with no account and no internet needed. Listening (transcription) is local-only. There is nothing to connect. Writing (your notes AI) is where the choice lives: keep the built-in model, or point it at your own Ollama install or your own API key. The full setup for that is in How to install.

How do I use Chat?

Chat is its own tab for asking questions in an open-ended way, rather than from a single meeting page. The composer has a model switcher, so you can pick which AI answers, and a Current dropdown to bring a specific note format's context into the conversation. Past chats persist across restarts and show up in a history list, so you can pick one back up later.

Can Inkling's AI read images I attach?

Not yet. You can attach images to a meeting or a note today, but no AI in Inkling scans or reads them. That's deliberately deferred until a vision-capable path is verified for both the built-in model and your own connections. Attached images are stored and viewable, just not analyzed.

Where does the AI processing happen?

On your Mac by default, for both transcription and note-writing, and transcription always stays local. The only time anything leaves your machine is if you deliberately connect the note-writing AI to your own Ollama server or your own API key, and even then, only what you send it (a transcript, a question) goes out, never a bulk copy of your data.
