Recording a meeting and reading it back

How do I start and stop a recording?

Click record on a meeting, whether it's one Inkling picked up from your calendar or a manual Quick Note. Click stop when the call ends, and Inkling moves straight into transcribing and writing your notes: there's no separate "save" step.

Do I need to tell people I'm recording?

Inkling is a local recorder. It doesn't join a call or notify the other participants itself, so a verbal heads-up is the only real way to let people know. The app shows a one-time disclosure during setup, and you're responsible for informing participants where law requires it: consent rules for recording a conversation vary by state and country, and some places require everyone's agreement before you record.

If you'd rather have a per-recording nudge as well, there's a reminder toggle in Settings, it's off by default, but turning it on shows a short reminder toast each time a recording starts.

Does Inkling stop recording when the meeting ends?

If the recording is linked to a calendar event, yes. When the event's end time passes, Inkling shows “Meeting ended. Stopping the recording in 60s” with two choices: Keep recording if the conversation ran long, or Stop now. Do nothing and it stops on its own, so a call that ends at 2:00 doesn't record your desk until 4:30.

The same system shows one prompt when your next real meeting is about to start, on whatever page of the app you're on. Both can be switched off in Settings → General → Meeting prompts.

Can I work in other apps while it records?

Yes. Minimize Inkling mid-recording and a small dark capsule, the pill, appears over whatever you're working in, with ink bars moving so you can see it's still listening. It never steals your clicks or your focus. Click the ink bars to reopen the app with the transcript showing, or the mascot to reopen it plain. Restore the window and the pill tucks itself away.

Why did my recording pause on its own?

If a recording sits in silence for 10 minutes, nobody talking, nothing on either side of the call, Inkling auto-pauses it rather than keep capturing dead air. A Resume toast appears; click it to pick the recording back up. This mostly catches meetings that ran long after everyone else left, or a call that never really started.

How do I read the transcript?

Open the transcript drawer from a meeting page. It slides in from the side with the full text, speaker by speaker. It's the same drawer everywhere in the app, so once you've found it once, it's in the same place on every meeting.

How are speakers identified?

When a recording is linked to a calendar event with exactly two people, Inkling automatically names both speakers in the transcript, no setup needed. It's a heuristic, so it's worth a quick glance the first time: it assumes the first speaker is you, and if that's backwards, one click rebinds the names.

For meetings with three or more people, or ones with no calendar match at all, speaker labels stay generic (Speaker 1, Speaker 2, ...) until you bind them manually in the transcript drawer.
